There are many attractions in Perak – man-made or natural – and all are worth your time if you happen to be in the area.
With overseas travel not an option due to Covid-19, Malaysians are taking local vacations to satisfy their wanderlust.
Here are three places in Perak that are worth a visit.
1. Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan
Who doesn’t know about Italy’s leaning tower of Pisa?
Well, Perak has its own Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan, on a square in the middle of the town. It is easy to get to but parking is limited because it is located on the main road.
The tower is unique because of its pagoda-like design, distinctive roof and traditional blocks.
It was built in 1885 to house water tanks for the town’s use. It also functions as a clock tower. In 1957, it was declared a national monument.
As it was built on soft soil near the riverbank, the tower settled over time, causing it to tilt towards the southwest.
With the water level of the river rising, you might want to visit this leaning tower sooner rather than later as it is feared the tower may be inundated one day.
For now, it definitely deserves a place on the list of three places to visit in Perak.
2. Atuk Kopi
What’s interesting about Atuk Kopi in Jalan Persatuan, Bidor, is the coffee blend and how strong it is.
Most local coffee houses brew the coffee the traditional way. But over here, they use the machines commonly found in Western-style coffee shops.
The coffee tastes amazing and is quite distinctive. A personal favourite: Kopi O. It is worth a stop at Atuk Kopi just for the strong, aromatic kopi O.
To get there, take the North-South Expressway to Bidor.
3. Nasi Bamboo Sungai Klah
This place is famous among motorcycle riders and those who usually ply the North-South Expressway.
Nasi Bamboo Sungai Klah in Kampung Buloh Telur, Sungkai, as its name suggests, is rice cooked in bamboo.
There are several options available such as normal rice, or rice stuffed with serunding.
Since this place was splashed all over social media, there was a genuine curiosity to see what all the hype was about.
The food is good, yes, and there are many dishes available, but apart from the rice cooked in bamboo, most of the dishes were rather ordinary.
Still, it offers a unique experience worth including on the list of three places to visit in Perak.
But be your own judge – do drop by and satisfy your own curiosity.
