Workout guide for a healthy and fit body

Keeping the body healthy requires effort. Along with a proper diet, fitness is important if you want your body to stay in tip-top condition.

Regular workouts can help in the following ways:

  • Help prevent disease.
  • Help lower cholesterol levels.
  • Help maintain heart health, mental health and promote better sleep.
  • Boost self-confidence about your body, reduce depression, stress and anxiety.
  • Increase energy levels, especially if you are easily fatigued.

But, apart from discipline and dedication, there are things that must be taken into account to achieve a good result. These include:

1. Consuming supplements

A proper intake of supplements ensures one has enough nutrients during the workout and helps prevent and repair damaged tissue, assist in recovery and increase strength during a workout.

Pre-workout supplements, for example, contain powerful ingredients such as caffeine and amino acids that may help boost your metabolism. They help you exercise with more vigour and develop stronger muscles.

There are two types of supplements; mineral/multivitamin supplements, which are the most important, and protein supplements that are necessary to get amino acids into the muscles.

2. Wearing the correct gear

Look for comfortable workout gear designed for the specific exercise being done. Proper sport shoes and clothing are important, rather than just wearing any old thing.

Visit a sporting goods shop to find the clothing best suited to your workout and body type.

3. Observing a good diet

For exercise to bear fruit, a diet that suits you and will supplement the workout to achieve desired outcomes is necessary.

Cut out junk food. Increase protein consumption. Muscles are built with protein and amino acids are used to repair muscle tissue.

Eat more fruit and vegetables. Drink a lot of water to prevent dehydration, not only on workout days.

4. Planning your training session

In the beginning, you should train more often to train your muscles and allow them to adapt to the new routine to avoid injury.

It is important to follow a proper timetable because your body also needs rest. It is about the cycle the body adapts to.

Start easy on the muscles with exercises that can be done with ease, then move on to more complex exercises as the body adapts.

5. Adhering to safety guidelines

When starting out, it is important to take note of the basic movements and safety tips to avoid injury. It is important to hire a personal trainer, visit a gym or get a workout partner who is more advanced to provide tips and guidelines to avoid harm.

A trainer can assess how strong you are and suggest exercises that match your ability. Avoid overstretching your muscles.

6. Choosing the right gym

Choose a gym where you will feel the most comfortable. Take a reconnaissance trip and look around to see what services are on offer, the equipment, the type of people that go to the gym, how crowded the place is and how far it is from your residence.

If you don’t like working out at a gym, get some equipment and work out at home or hire a trainer to teach you the exercises needed to achieve the desired outcome.

7. Managing your mental health

Family, work and other commitments can be hindrances to your workout programme. Activities must be balanced for everything to fall into place.

The first thing is to identify exactly what you want to achieve and use this to gauge your progress.

Always think positively about the workout. Think of the outcome and how important it is for your health and body.

Build discipline and stop yourself from engaging in activities that will hinder the workout. Mental health plays an important role in staying motivated, positive and consistent when working out.
