6 reasons why an entrepreneur is a good life partner

What is it like to date an entrepreneur? Dating in and of itself is tricky and entrepreneurs are a rather special breed of people – in the best possible way of course.

When dating an entrepreneur, it is important to know what makes them tick, which can lead to an appreciation of their unique qualities and a strong, long-lasting relationship

1. Entrepreneurs are BIG dreamers

Entrepreneurs are not just dreamers, they are big dreamers. They have things they want to do, which can make a partner feel that they or the relationship take second place. Try not to take it personally.

Popular blogger Tim Denning said, “Everyone is talking about what they had for lunch – we are taking about changing the world.”

That is one major difference between an entrepreneur and everyone else. Entrepreneurs have a strong sense of purpose. They are highly motivated and driven, sometimes getting up in the middle of the night, ready to tackle something.

Or they may excuse themselves from a movie or a family dinner because something “just can’t wait” and needs their attention.

It is very important that a person’s sense of purpose is as strong as their entrepreneur-partner’s.

This does not mean the couple must share exactly the same vision, just make sure the vision of one does not overpower that of the other.

2. ‘Impossible’ is not in an entrepreneur’s vocabulary

An entrepreneur is the ultimate go-getter. Rejection, adversity and other obstacles simply do not faze them.

They have probably heard the word “no” a lot more often than most people, and it does not move them one bit.

They are a little like the old Nike ads: “Nothing is impossible”, and “Impossible is nothing”.

For an entrepreneur, there is always a way. Even if there are so many roadblocks ahead that sensible people would turn back, entrepreneurs just keep on going. Their motto is, “There is always a way.”

3. Entrepreneurs like to keep things simple

This sounds counterintuitive, but entrepreneurs do not just like to keep things simple, they believe things are simple.

At heart, an entrepreneur is a problem solver. Therefore, seeing something in its simplest light is the best way for them to find solutions.

As Tim Denning said, “We believe that while everyone is describing a problem as hard, it’s actually straightforward when you chunk it down and remove all the associated myths. We want things to be simple because we know that the only way to get mass adoption in any business is through simplicity.”

A good entrepreneur is a master of the elevator pitch. They can put things in ways that are easy to grasp. This is one of the reasons it is so easy to fall in love with an entrepreneur, because of the clarity they bring.

4. Reading is very important to an entrepreneur

Entrepreneurs are classic lifelong learners. They have incredibly curious minds. Expect them to spend a lot of time reading.

For many, reading is of supreme value because they can relax and learn at the same time. Their brains are never off, even when they are supposed to be resting, relaxing and unwinding.

Reading may actually be more important to them than watching TV or other recreational activities, with the exception of sports or going to the gym.

There is always a book, an e-book, an article (or several at a time) that they are perusing.

5. Entrepreneurs are always asking questions

Many entrepreneurs think out loud. They ask questions out of sheer curiosity, not because they expect an answer. Don’t worry, they do not expect their partner to be a genius at everything, able to answer all their questions.

Matthew Toren says, “By dating an entrepreneur, you are dating both a treasure trove of information and someone who will challenge you to keep learning.”

What they do want is for their partner to listen and share their curiosity about the world.

6. Entrepreneurs care … a lot

Entrepreneurs care a great deal about people and the future of the planet. They do not want to solve problems just for the sake of it. They are not curious just because they want to add to whatever knowledge they possess.

They care a lot about the world they live in. They have a genuine concern for people’s lives and want to know how they can be made better.

They also care because they know they cannot and will not solve the problems they see on their own.

They recognise that other people have an important part to play in their vision, and therefore they want to make sure they are taken care of.

Entrepreneurs are wonderful team-builders, they know how to motivate people to work for the common good.
