Musicians cum entrepreneurs take centre stage at food bazaar

The Malaysian Musicians Food Bazaar will be manned by musicians-turned-cooks who have ventured into the food business.

PETALING JAYA: It is said music is food for the soul and now in a twist of fate, the very musicians who stirred your soul with their love ballads have turned cooks as a means of earning an income in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Stepping in to lend a helping hand is social enterprise start-up, Creative-Pathfinders, who has launched an initiative to help local club and pub musicians in dire straits.

Known as the BRADA Community Programme, this initiative includes assisting the musicians in the areas of sales, marketing, business development, skills development and technology enablement.

This is because while just about anybody can cook up a storm in their home kitchens, making a business out of it requires knowledge on food preparation, costing, licensing, health certification, packaging and logistics.

So fighting their stage fright, a group of musicians gallantly stepped under the spotlight yesterday – this time making their debut as home cooks cum entrepreneurs at the Malaysian Musicians Food Bazaar at the Hartamas Shopping Centre (HSC) in Sri Hartamas.

The food bazaar will help local musicians who have turned entrepreneurs after losing their main source of income during the Movement Control Order (MCO).

The food bazaar promises to be a delightful event with a wide and delectable spread of authentic local and international dishes, all prepared by the multi-talented musicians themselves.

There will also be live music by buskers to liven up the event, held at the Link Bridge that straddles Plaza Damas 3 and HSC.

And since it’s durian season, what’s a bazaar without Malaysia’s king of fruits? Just show up at the bazaar and let your nose lead you to the spot right away.

Adding more pizzazz to the event will be a piano auction, generously sponsored by Richard Morais to help raise funds for musicians in need.

Speaking about the initiative, Stephen Hon, founder of Creative-Pathfinders, explained that the word BRADA was derived from the colloquial concept of brotherhood and camaraderie.

“We envision BRADA as a beacon of light for economically challenged communities in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, a proverbial candle in the darkness,” he added.

Stephen said he believes that the ongoing economic depression resulting from the pandemic can be overcome by recognising and creating sustainable business opportunities for those adversely affected by it.

Creative Pathfinders is also working closely with MasterChef Malaysia judge, Johari Edrus and chef Brian Melling to further help local musicians who are venturing into the food business.

The Malaysian Musician Food Bazaar is the first of a series of events planned under the BRADA Community Programme, and is supported by Malaysian Land Properties, the operators of HSC.

Show some love to Malaysia’s musicians by visiting the food bazaar over the weekend and the whole of next week.
