Guan Eng cries foul after being barred from entering Sabah

Lim Guan Eng says he was stopped by a senior immigration officer at Kota Kinabalu International Airport late last night.

PETALING JAYA: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has cried foul after he was barred from entering Sabah late last night.

He was eventually allowed in.

In a Facebook post, the former finance minister said he arrived at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport at 11.54pm and went through immigration checks.

“As I was about to enter the car (to leave the airport), a senior Immigration Department official asked me to go back in (the airport). I cooperated and went into the Immigration Department office.”

According to Lim, immigration officers informed him that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had barred him from entering the state.

“What is this? Doesn’t this power belong to the Sabah state government?” he asked.

Lim said even former prime minister Najib Razak, who has been convicted of corruption, and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is facing trial, could enter Sabah without any problems.

He said he cannot understand why he is being barred from entering the state and questioned if it is a case of double standard.

Lim also said the power to bar someone from entering Sabah lies with the state government and not Putrajaya.

After half an hour, Lim said he was allowed in.

“It’s okay, later I will ask (caretaker) chief minister Shafie Apdal if he does not want me to be in the state,” he said.
