Have you ever known a dog who says his prayers before chomping down on his meal? Well, meet Cooper, a two-a-half-year-old Golden Retriever who takes the act of eating rather seriously.

Being the first pet the family has ever had, Shanti Balakrishnan says that Cooper is the “love of our lives”.

Handsome and with a winning personality to boot, Shanti says Cooper is an active boy who’s the ultimate foodie.

“Cooper eats everything, including zucchini, apples and watermelons. What can I say except that he’s simply a foodie,” Shanti says.

So it comes as no surprise that when instructed, Cooper obediently “says a prayer before eating”, according to Shanti.

Cooper also knows other tricks like “sit” and “wait”.

He can be rather selective about displaying his intelligence, Shanti says, preferring to turn a deaf ear when scolded for being mischievous.

Being pretty much a young lad still, Cooper loves to play with his many soft toys almost as much as he loves sitting in air-conditioned comfort as he watches the world pass by his car window. “He loves going for car rides very much,” Shanti says.

Another activity he enjoys with equal zeal is going for his daily walks and touching base with the neighbourhood kids.

“Cooper is very, very friendly. He has a fan club here when he goes for walks and there are always kids waiting at the playground to play with him,” Shanti says.

But despite his confident and friendly nature, Cooper is terrified of thunder and wishes only for sunshine and clear skies all day, every day.

“At night, he likes to sleep downstairs alone. That’s his space and he’s happy with the arrangement. He is the love of our lives. Our first pet,” Shanti says.
