Censure deputy ministers over Veveonah issue, says Kadir Jasin

Veteran newsman A Kadir Jasin wants a parliamentary disciplinary committee to look into the case of deputy ministers Abdul Rahim Bakri and Zahidi Zainul Abidin.

PETALING JAYA: Veteran newsman A Kadir Jasin has called for the two deputy ministers involved in the controversy over Sabahan student Veveonah Mosibin to be censured by a parliamentary disciplinary committee.

This comes after Universiti Malaysia Sabah chairman Masidi Manjun confirmed that Veveonah had been sitting for exams in June, disproving the earlier claims of Deputy Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Bakri and Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin.

Kadir said an apology from the two deputy ministers would not be enough, adding that they should be sacked from their positions instead.

“But I’m not confident that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin views their actions as serious or dares to take action on these Umno representatives.

“If this is the attitude of adults, especially those from Perikatan Nasional parties, then it’s apt for youths to have their own party and movement so their voting power does not go to waste,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Veveonah was propelled into the limelight after posting a video on her YouTube channel three months ago about spending 24 hours up a tree in the jungle to get the best internet connection so she could sit for her exams online.

Zahidi last week accused Veveonah of being a YouTuber and faking her online exam to garner views for her video channel, although he later apologised to Veveonah and said he had received “inaccurate information” on the matter.

However, Rahim, in a Facebook post two days ago, said Veveonah lives in town and her family no longer had a house in the kampung where she claimed to have climbed a tree to sit for the exam.

His post accusing Veveonah of deliberately creating drama to seek attention and publicity sparked an uproar among netizens, prompting Rahim to delete it.
