PETALING JAYA: Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has called on the police to step up checks to ensure people are complying with the rule on wearing masks in crowded public places.
In a Facebook post, Sultan Ibrahim said it was important for people to wear masks in public to prevent the spread of the virus.
Since the rule came into effect on August 1, Sultan Ibrahim said he had seen police issuing compounds to those who did not comply.
“The people should not take the SOPs lightly when the government and the relevant agencies are working hard to contain the spread of Covid-19,” he said.
On Sunday, it was reported that 127 people were issued compounds for not wearing masks.
Under the rule, people are required to wear face masks on public transport and in crowded places.
