Cabinet to discuss Tabung Haji RCI

PETALING JAYA: The Cabinet will discuss the proposal for a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into claims of misconduct and irregularities involving Tabung Haji.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri said the government understood the need for an independent authority to scrutinise and evaluate transactions by the pilgrimage fund.

He said Putrajaya wanted to reach an amicable resolution for all parties and ensure that the management of Tabung Haji fulfilled its role as an Islamic institution.

“The government will consider and scrutinise this proposal.

“The Cabinet will discuss the issues involving Tabung Haji as soon as possible, including the proposal as well as the necessity for an RCI to be established,” he said in a written parliamentary reply.

He was responding to Kubang Pasu MP Amiruddin Hamzah, who asked if Putrajaya intended to form an RCI to probe the financial scandals involving Tabung Haji.

Umno Youth previously urged the Perikatan Nasional government to set up an RCI, saying this would show whether the accusations made by the previous government were true.
