PETALING JAYA: A Grab driver is upset that his e-hailing account has been suspended longer than usual for documents to be verified.
The driver, who asked to remain anonymous, said Grab drivers have to update documents such as road tax, insurance cover notes and car grants every year to keep their accounts active.
Previously, Grab would take less than three hours to verify the documents. However, under a new verification policy, in which he said drivers were left in the dark, the process could take up to 10 working days, he added.
During the verification process, he said, drivers’ accounts were suspended and they would be unable to receive any bookings.
“How do they expect us to survive for 10 days without any earnings? I’m the sole breadwinner for my family,” he told FMT.
The driver said he went to a Grab centre to ask for an explanation but the customer service officer could not help him. “The officer said they need more time to process as the number of drivers has increased.”
The full-time driver, who has been working with the e-hailing company for five years, claimed that many of its policies were “one-sided”.
He believed other drivers were facing the same problem but had not come forward.
He admitted that he had tried working with other e-hailing companies but said the bookings did not meet his target.
“The income I received from other companies was unable to meet my cost of living,” he said, urging Grab to review its document verification process, especially for full-time drivers.
FMT has reached out to Grab for comment.
