Just like taxes, plumbing woes are inevitable in life. Plumbing issues are hard to avoid and most households would have experienced leaky pipes or damp walls at some point or other.
The three most common problems are sinks that take forever to drain, leaky taps and low water pressure, and here is what causes them.
1. Slow draining sink
Everyone is familiar with the slow draining sink – when one is washing the dishes and the sink starts to fill up because the water is going down too slowly.
This occurs due to blockages in the pipes restricting the water flow, usually caused by food remnants, fat and oil. If the problem occurs in the bathroom sink, it is generally caused by hair or soap.
A quick fix with a plunger, or the baking soda and vinegar method, will help to unclog the drain but if the blockage is stubborn, it may be a job for the plumber.
2. Leaky taps
The sound of water dripping from a leaky tap is all too familiar and somewhat annoying. Leaky taps occur when the internal washer of the tap is torn, worn out or has been dislodged over time.
Water dripping steadily from the tap can lead to the wastage of hundreds of litres of precious water in a year. Professional help is needed to ensure the problem is identified correctly and repaired properly.
3. Low water pressure
No one likes dealing with low water pressure. It commonly happens, especially in older homes, when the pipes are corroded, worn or broken.
It should be identified by a professional, who will inspect the piping, give an accurate assessment and resolve the issues in a timely manner.
