No deals with ‘hostile forces’, say Amanah, DAP

Amanah and DAP say any arrangement to retake Putrajaya must include the five original PH parties.

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties Amanah and DAP today rejected any arrangement involving “hostile forces” linked to the meeting between MPs from Umno, PAS, PPBM and PKR which saw the collapse of the government in February, saying the inability to distinguish between “friends and foes” would lead to “unmitigated disaster”.

In a statement signed by Amanah deputy president Salahudin Ayub and DAP vice-chairman M Kula Segaran, they said any combination of parties must include the five original PH components, namely Amanah, DAP, PKR, Warisan and Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s faction of PPBM.

They said there should be no deal or attempted deal with PPBM secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin, whom they called “the chief conspirator of the Sheraton coup”.

“Any formula that includes Hamzah but excludes Warisan and Mahathir’s faction is not acceptable and not based on principles,” they said.

Likewise, they rejected any arrangement to form the government with PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin, former PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali or former prime minister Najib Razak.

“It is very important for the PH parties to come to a common understanding on who are the real opponents.

“Amanah and DAP maintain that Warisan and Mahathir’s faction of PPBM are not our enemies. They are our allies in the fight against the kleptocratic Perikatan Nasional alliance.”

Their statement follows reports that Hamzah had met with PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, who is locked in a tussle with Mahathir over PH’s nominee for prime minister should PH succeed in retaking Putrajaya.

When asked about the claims on Saturday, Hamzah said it was a personal meeting with someone he had not seen for a few years, and that the matters discussed were personal.

Amanah and DAP said it was important for their allies to know friends from foes.

“The inability to distinguish between friends and foes would lead us into unmitigated disaster,” they said.
