KOTA KINABALU, July 30 ― Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal is expected to hold a press conference at 10 am today at the State Government Administrative Center here.

An invitation to the media was sent via a Whatsapp message by the Chief Minister's Office.

The press conference is called, believed over the latest political development in Sabah, including on a claim by former Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman that he has secured a simple majority to form a new state government in a coalition involving several parties.

However, at a press conference held at his residence yesterday, Musa did not state the majority he has to oust the state government which is led by Mohd Shafie Apdal, who is also Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) president.

The Sabah State Legislative Assembly has 65 representatives, including five who are nominated. The simple majority is, therefore, 33 seats.

The current state government bloc has 45 seats in the assembly, while the opposition has 20. ― Bernama

Trump ally who skipped mask tests positive for coronavirus

WASHINGTON: A Republican lawmaker who made a habit of walking around Congress without a mask tested positive for the novel coronavirus Wednesday as he prepared to leave for his native Texas with President Donald Trump.

Louie Gohmert announced his diagnosis a day after attending a major hearing featuring testimony from Attorney General Bill Barr, with whom he was seen walking and chatting at a close distance while neither wore a mask.

The news angered House Democrats and prompted Speaker Nancy Pelosi to order the wearing of masks on the chamber floor — with punishment of removal for anyone disobeying.

Gohmert, 66, said he was asymptomatic and downplayed his diagnosis.

He has worn a mask sporadically in recent weeks, and suggested Wednesday that moving it around on his face because it is uncomfortable “puts some germs in the mask” and maybe this caused his infection.

Even as the pandemic has raged in the US, Trump steadfastly ignored recommendations from US medical experts that people wear masks to help curb the spread of the virus and he did not wear one in public until July 11.

Since then, Republican lawmakers who shunned masks have begun to wear them more regularly. But to wear or not wear a mask remains a political flashpoint in the country.

Gohmert was tested Wednesday at the White House because he was supposed to accompany Trump on a visit to Texas.

“So I’m asymptomatic, I don’t have any of the symptoms that are listed as part of Covid-19, but apparently I have the Wuhan virus,” Gohmert said in a video using a term that angers China.

Gohmert said he has worn the mask more in the last week or two than in all of the past four months, and did so during Tuesday’s hearing with Barr.

But he took it off a few times and was seen walking and talking with Barr before the hearing.

“Wear a damn mask,” said Democratic representative Jennifer Wexton from Virginia.

“I don’t know who needs to hear this, but if you’re a Member of Congress who refuses to wear a mask on Capitol Hill, you’re not only putting your colleagues at risk — you’re endangering the staff who works here, including many of my constituents,” she said.

Why a ‘flow state’ is crucial for your organisation

The team is right, the objectives are clear, so why is the work not flowing? (Rawpixel pic)

The team seems ideal, the motivation is there, the objectives are real and the work space is perfect, but the work somehow does not seem to flow well.

This is quite common and it means the team is not working in the so-called “flow state”.

Psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi defines flow state as “a state in which one feels completely absorbed and immersed in an activity that provides pleasure and enjoyment.”

On average, people spend about a third of their lives working. This makes it important to obtain a work experience that is as pleasant as possible.

To do this, it is important to know what type of organisation one is working in. In general, there are two types – a healthy one and a toxic one.

What is the difference between healthy and toxic?

Healthy organisations, unlike toxic ones, invest in collaborative, systematic and intentional efforts to maximise the well-being of employees and productivity, creating well-designed spaces with equal and accessible opportunities.

This type of organisation takes into account aspects such as stress and the promotion of occupational health.

In the last few years the term “engagement” has been used a lot. It refers to a positive, affective state characterised by high levels of energy and mental activation in the workplace.

However, flow is different from engagement. It is a more punctual process related to concrete characteristics or work duties.

When a person works with flow, they feel motivated and able to perform a concrete activity that is also challenging.

In this context, the worker remains totally concentrated, strives to the fullest, developing all of their potential to perform the task with the best result and, overall, feels in control of the situation.

Creating a flow state in the workplace is about empowering workers’ capabilities. (Rawpixel pic)

What tools would help to reach the flow state?

  • The activity to be carried out must have a clear goal as to what is expected as a final result and the individual must have some ability to perform it.

If a person is not a musician or they do not like music, they will not be able to achieve a state of flow. On the contrary, they would enter into a state of anxiety and possible frustration.

  • The task must be active and attractive. Once the team knows what they are going to do, they have to balance compromise with pleasure so the brain can go into “autopilot mode”, even enjoying possible difficulties.
  • Always pursue partial and final objectives and start from parameters that will help achieve success. They will also indicate progress and the quality of the task.
  • Motivation plays a fundamental role. For example, if an individual works for a company in exchange for a salary, they will enter a state of flow as long as they are doing something they like and that satisfies them.

The brain needs more dopamine and it must be generated. How and why? Pretty much everyone would have heard the word feedback. It is a more than important tool to achieve a good flow state.

Feedback has two key functions. First, it helps people to know immediately if they should continue doing the task in the same way or if they should look for a better alternative.

Second, it catches and hooks people. Positive feedback produces dopamine in the brain and when this is experienced, people will crave more “micro-rewards” and will continue performing actions that will provide more positive feedback.

To summarise, feedback helps people work more efficiently, on their own, with more creativity. But remember, self-motivation is also necessary, do not forget that.

It could be said in conclusion that if an organisation really thought about its workers and internal clients, there would be greater practical effectiveness, more positive feedback and, therefore, greater business success.

These companies are usually examples for others to follow, since many people would like to work for them.

Here is where flow has the most weight and working in this state means moving one step further to create a healthy and positive environment for the workers, allowing them to create a relationship between professional growth, creative breadth and the enjoyment of their tasks.

It is about letting go and empowering a person’s capabilities, which will result in workers who are dedicated to their tasks, who seek to develop their entire potential and who will want more and greater challenges. This will ultimately lead to satisfaction and happiness.

Ashley Judd wins appeal in Weinstein sexual harassment case

LOS ANGELES: A US court of appeals on Wednesday ruled that actress Ashley Judd has the right to pursue her sexual harassment lawsuit against disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, overturning a lower court’s decision.

The three-judge panel on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals found that Weinstein, who is in prison, held power over the actress and her career when he invited her to his room in a luxury Los Angeles hotel in the mid-1990s.

The lower court had previously dismissed Judd’s claim on grounds that the sexual advances Weinstein allegedly made to her were not covered by sexual harassment laws relating to a professional relationship since she was not his employee.

But it had allowed the actress to pursue defamation claims against the producer.

But the appeals court disagreed, saying that Weinstein and Judd’s relationship “consisted of an inherent power imbalance wherein Weinstein was uniquely situated to exercise coercion or leverage over Judd by virtue of his professional position and influence as a top producer in Hollywood.”

“Therefore, the district court erred when it dismissed Judd’s sexual harassment claim,” the ruling added.

Judd was one of the first women to come forward with sexual harassment claims against Weinstein, and sued him in April 2018 over the incident at his Beverly Hills hotel where she met with him to discuss potential film roles.

She alleges that after she rebuffed his advances, Weinstein defamed her and damaged her career by discouraging “Lord of the Rings” director Peter Jackson from giving her a role, claiming she was a “nightmare” to work with.

Her lawyer Theodore Boutrous Jr hailed Wednesday’s ruling, saying it marks an important victory for all victims of sexual harassment in professional relationships.

“The court correctly holds that California law forbids sexual harassment and retaliation by film producers and others in powerful positions, even outside the employment context, and we look forward to pursuing this claim against Mr Weinstein at trial,” he said.

‘Remedies against abusers’

The Screen Actors Guild also welcomed the ruling.

“The California Legislature took action to make sure that individuals like Ashley Judd, who may not be traditional employees, would have remedies against abusers, and that those abusers couldn’t escape responsibility based on technicalities related to employee status,” it said in a statement.

“The Ninth Circuit has rightly determined that statute means what it says, and that victims of harassment, abuse, and assault will not be cut off from justice based on technical details of employee status.”

Weinstein’s attorney Phyllis Kupferstein told AFP in a statement that she looked forward to a trial “where we expect the truth will come to light.”

“The most minimal investigation of the events will show that Mr Weinstein neither defamed Ms Judd, nor hindered or interfered with her career, and certainly never retaliated against her,” Kupferstein said.

“In addition, the record on ‘Lord of the Rings’ will finally be made absolutely clear — that Mr. Weinstein had no authority over the project as it belonged to a different production company that had full staffing control of the film,” she added.

In February, Weinstein was found guilty of a criminal sexual act in the first degree and rape in the third degree in a landmark verdict for the #MeToo movement.

He is currently serving 23 years in prison.

The lengthy sentence capped a remarkable downfall for the 68-year-old, who has been accused of years of vile predatory behavior by almost 90 women, including Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek.

Aku, Cina Ampang

Buat seketika Perang Saudara Selangor membuatkan keadaan huru-hara.

Sebelum meninggal dunia saya memberitahu anak-anak.

New foreign worker policy draws brickbats

MEF says sectors other than plantation, construction and agricultural will face a serious shortage of manpower if they are not allowed to hire foreign workers.

PETALING JAYA: An employers group and an SME association have hit out at Putrajaya’s decision to allow foreign workers in only three sectors, saying the operation of many excluded firms would be badly affected.

The Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) said the government did not consult it on the matter and the Small and Medium Enterprises Association (Samenta) said there should not have been a blanket ban on certain sectors such as manufacturing.

MEF executive director Shamsuddin Bardan said the three sectors allowed to use foreign workers – construction, agricultural and plantation – employed only about 837,800 of the two million documented migrant workers in Malaysia.

He told FMT that the manufacturing sector employed about 700,000 foreign workers, the services sector about 309,000 and the domestic help sector about 130,000.

“These other sectors will obviously face a serious shortage of manpower and disruptions in their operations,” he said.

“Unfortunately, the government did not discuss the matter with the stakeholders on this policy prior to the announcement in Parliament.”

Shamsuddin questioned whether locals were willing to take up the “dirty, dangerous and difficult” jobs foreign workers would leave behind.

“Foreign workers are allowed to be recruited only when employers are able to prove that no locals are available to fill up the vacancies,” he said.

“The phasing out of foreign workers may be possible if it is done in stages and if it can be shown that locals are prepared to fill up the available vacancies currently occupied by foreign workers.”

Samenta national secretary Yeoh Seng Hooi told FMT that SME exporters had been contributing to Malaysia’s improving trade numbers.

They were still reliant on foreign workers, he added.

Yeoh said Putrajaya should formulate a plan to bring down the number of foreign workers in sectors other than the three instead of imposing a blanket ban, adding that this policy would further burden SMEs already affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The recruitment of foreign workers can be based on a local-to-foreign ratio as practised in Singapore. This means if you have 30 local workers, and if the ratio is 60:40, then you can hire only 20 foreign workers.”

He also said the hiring of locals should be tied to an easing of the law on dismissal of non-performing employees. He described the Employment Act as overprotective of employees.

“Many times, SMEs lose their cases in the industrial courts because of technicalities,” he said. “There’s too much paperwork involved and SMEs don’t have big human resources departments to ensure all the documents are in place.”

Deputy Human Resources Minister Awang Solahudin told the Dewan Rakyat yesterday that Putrajaya believed the restriction on foreign worker employment would help Malaysians regain employment.

The Mercedes-Benz A35 4Matic Sedan goes on a test drive

The Mercedes-Benz A35 4Matic Sedan. (Daniel Fernandez pic)

This is probably the best starter Benz you could consider if you are looking to get into the world of Mercedes-Benz ownership. Well, more like the A250 Saloon which retails for RM259,255.33 and carries a 224hp engine.

It’s smart looking and it’s equipped to the hilt with all the necessary safety features and cabin appointments that will make you happy.

Now, DSF’s personal choice would be the rather limited and hard-to-find Denim Blue colour with the Artico Dinamica black interior.

Launched in March 2020, Mercedes-Benz decided that their A-Class sedan should not carry the name CLA anymore and instead use the name Saloon which really makes better sense for the global market to understand that this is an A-Class hot hatch with a boot, a Saloon.

Saloon explained

Now the last version of the Mercedes-Benz CLA range arrived in Malaysia in September 2016 and carried a price tag from RM236,888 for the CLA 200 to RM278,888 for the CLA 250 Sport 4MATIC to RM408,888 for the heart-stopping CLA 45 4MATIC.

There was no CLA35 at the time. The market response was good, but not great as the CLA had a small rear passenger space and compact boot space. Also, it was priced too close to the larger and better equipped C-Class.

Now comes a brand new range of compact Mercedes-Benz Saloons and this time there’s the AMG tuned A35 4MATIC launched in September 2019 for RM348,888.

It comes with a 2.0L turbocharged engine that delivers 306hp for a 0-100km/h run in just 4.9 seconds.

The new A35 4MATIC Saloon will appeal to young Malaysians looking for high performance and huge amounts of space for passengers and luggage.

The two-part tail lamps and the new diffuser insert underscore the rear end that emphasises width. (Daniel Fernandez pic)

Saloon looks

This four-door Saloon is based on a wheelbase of 2,729 millimetres and displays the powerful proportions of a dynamic and at the same time compact Saloon car with sporty short overhangs at the front and rear.

The radiator grille with twin louvers, the AMG Line front apron with flicks on the air intakes, a front splitter and silver chrome trim elements are distinguishing AMG design features.

In the side view, the aerodynamically optimised 457.2 mm light-alloy wheels and side sill panels of the AMG Line catch the eye.

The muscular vehicle shoulder with a precise character line running below it emphasises the perfectly contoured side volume. The side mirrors sit on the beltline as on a sports car.

The two-part tail lamps and the new diffuser insert underscore the rear end that emphasises width. Additionally, there is the spoiler lip on the boot lid and the two round tailpipe trims positioned on the extreme left and right.

Providing average shoulder, elbow and headroom with easy access to the rear makes this a young family car as well. (Daniel Fernandez pic)

Saloon interior

The A35 4MATIC Saloon boot holds 420 litres and has a boot opening with a width of 950 mm and a diagonal of 462 mm between lock and lower edge of the rear window. This allows comfortable loading and unloading, even of larger luggage.

This applies in particular to the optional keyless-go comfort package with hands-free access. the hands-free access convenience function enables hands-free and fully automatic opening of the boot lid with a kicking motion of the foot under the rear bumper.

Saloon MBUX Multimedia System

This A35 4MATIC Saloon comes with a new MBUX multimedia system that combines an intuitive operating structure with sporty design. MBUX creates an even closer connection between the vehicle, driver and passengers.

Emotionally appealing presentations underline the clear control structure and feature brilliant maximum-resolution 3D graphics.

Visually, the two displays under one shared glass cover blend into a Widescreen Cockpit and as a central element consequently emphasise the horizontal orientation of the interior design.

It’s voice control is activated with “Hey Mercedes”. Thanks to artificial intelligence, MBUX recognises and understands mostly all sentences from the fields of infotainment and vehicle operation, even if they are expressed indirectly.

Saloon digital instrument cluster

The customer can choose between three AMG display styles for the instrument cluster.

The Supersport mode is particularly striking with a central, round rev counter and additional information presented in the form of bars to the left and right of the rev counter: with a three-dimensional perspective, they reach far into the background to an artificial horizon.

Via the AMG menu, the driver can call up various special displays such as Warm-up, Set-up, G-Force and Engine Data.

Superb saloon AMG engineering. (Daniel Fernandez pic)

Saloon AMG engineering

The crankcase made of high-strength, lightweight die-cast aluminium reduces the vehicle weight where it matters most for driving dynamics.

A twin-scroll turbocharger is used for turbocharging. It combines optimum responsiveness at low engine speeds with a strong power increase at higher speeds.

The housing of the twin-scroll turbocharger is divided into two parallel ducts. Together with two separate exhaust ducts in the exhaust manifold, this makes it possible to channel the exhaust gases separately on the turbine wheel.

This minimises the mutual negative influence of the individual cylinders in the charge change cycle. This reduces the exhaust back pressure and improves the charge change as well as the efficiency of the engine.

The exhaust system features an automatically controlled exhaust flap as standard. Depending on the drive programme selected, the sound is modulated from balanced to powerful.

Saloon efficiency

The high technological standards of the new four-cylinder engine are underscored by numerous efficiency-enhancing measures.

These include CAMTRONIC variable valve control, intelligent thermal management for engine and oil, high-precision piezo injectors and multi-spark ignition.

In production, the patented CONICSHAPE® cylinder honing reduces internal engine friction and also increases efficiency.

Saloon driving dynamics

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine boasts a spontaneous response to accelerator pedal commands, high tractive power and a lively response with an engine note typical of AMG.

One of the best traits of this or any AMG tuned Benz is its drive attitude that comes from its high levels of grip and strong brakes that inspire the kind of confidence that lets you probe further than your drive instinct would normally allow.

This is a very well-balanced car with quite a tenacious grip and eager performance.

At speeds, turn-in is sharp and it points where it’s intended, however it is shaken off-line on pot-holed corners and uneven surfaces with its super firm suspension and tight chassis.

In “comfort” mode the ride takes a twist and returns a pliant and comfortable ride more akin to an executive sedan.

It can be precisely-placed when cornering quickly on well paved roads only and, even with some induced slide, feels controlled and very well-balanced. And the result? Pure driving enjoyment.

4.Klip kertas
5.Surat khabar lama

Langkah demi langkah

1. Sebelum di servis apinya biru tetapi perlahan.

2. Terbalikkan dapur.
